Acrylic linocut monotypes on paper
2024 marked the vast emergence of the 17 year periodical cicadas throughout the Southeastern and Midwestern United States. The land I live on has remained mostly undisturbed from development for decades. Every 17 years marks an early and cacophonous emergence in my yard in particular. Once white houses in the neighborhood temporarily turn a dull brown from the discarded shells of emerging nymphs. The screams of the mature insects echo distinctly off of the ridge and hillside.
